In Olden times, both India and Jambu dvipa were sacred islands and their sacredness is accepted in Brahamnic, Buddhist and Jain religious literatures. In ancient times, India was not the same topographically as she stands now. In this study, The Author has made a laudable attempt to trace the History of such topographical changes which have taken place since A Few centuries prior to the Christian era. The author has arrived at starting conclusions about ancient Geography of India. He claims to have been able to ascertain the ancient coast line of peninsular India, correct identification of the Taprobane island (Tampraparni), the old courses of the rivers like Ganga, Sindhu, Brahmaputra, Narmada, etc., the locations of the scenes of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, and the areas of Gautama Buddha's birth and travels. It is true that all the conclusions arrived at by The Author may not be acceptable to present day scholarship, nor all his arguments and interpretations are convincing, but the new lights thrown on ancient India and South East Asia and the material compiled by the author are of immense value to future research. Preface Introduction Chapter 1. Taprobane Island of Ptolemy is the Peninsular portion of India, subsequently joined to Mainland 2.
